Each class takes various field trips throughout the year. Each trip is related to the monthly theme. We also have programs that come to the school to enhance the monthly theme. Parent volunteers will be able to accompany the children on the trips. We use a school bus to transport the children on the trips.
The children enjoy a music time one time a week. The music teacher will lead them in many different kinds of songs and movement activities. They will experience things including singing, playing instruments, dancing, music interpretation (through drawing and movement), musical games, play-acting, story telling, echoing/mimicking and listening. Music selections will include Christian, secular, multicultural pieces, folk, and others.
Some of our classes will participate in a Spanish class once a week. They will learn basic Spanish words including colors, numbers, body parts, and family.
Each child will have a turn to bring in a special item from home to show to the class. They will tell the class certain things about the item so the whole class can enjoy the experience. Occasionally, the show and tell item will be related to a certain topic or theme. Show and tell promotes vocabulary and speaking in front of a group.
Here at Souderton Brethren in Christ Nursery School we believe that the Bible is the foundation for life. Each class will have a Bible time where the children will sing songs, learn a verse from the Bible, hear a Bible truth and learn why it is important to them. The children enjoy this time and are always happy to learn more about God. The three day classes and Pre-K classes enjoy a Corporate Worship time once a month. We meet in the sanctuary of the church and sing songs and hear a Bible truth.
Each day the children participate in process oriented art project. The goal of our art program is to motivate and challenge children to use an ever-changing variety of art media in ways that will enhance specific areas of development. We will seldom provide patterns. What your child creates will be based on his or her interest, needs, skills, developmental age, imagination, and sometimes even what other children are observed doing with the materials.
